The Wombats, Live in Concert at The Wiltern

I went to see The Wombats in Los Angeles at the final show of their U.S. tour. The band was electric, and their setlist had a combination of old classics, and songs of their latest album: Fix Yourself, Not the World which released earlier this year.  The Liverpool natives put on a show that had everyone’s eyes glued to the stage—it was impossible to look away.

Everywhere I looked, there were immense amounts of joy just filling the room, people were dancing, and singing along, and not a single care in the world besides the music playing. Coming from a semi-post pandemic era, every concert has felt like a breath of fresh air, and The Wombats truly made everyone in the venue that night feel just like that.

“We’re going to play some songs [for you] to let loose to…maybe a few slut drops I don’t know—it’s totally up to you guys, but whatever you do, do it with purpose.”

– Matthew Murphy, lead singer — The Wombats

This show was my third show since concerts have started to come back, and to be honest didn’t really listen to them before I went to the concert (excluding their few viral songs TikTok)—and can confidently say I left the show last night as a fan. As soon as the encore wrapped up, I honestly wished the band kept playing for another hour. I will be returning to another show to see The Wombats—and personally? Hearing their song Greek Tragedy was my personal favorite of the night, and catching a couple of wombats on stage (and no, not the band members).
