Braving a thunderstorm and a tornado, the Dallas alt-rock music scene showed. up. for Joywave’s concert at Trees Monday night. The night kicked off with San Diego group almost monday, who announced this supporting run with Joywave was their first ever tour. The band introduced themselves to the crowd with catchy tunes like “broken people” and “parking lot view.” They even gave us a taste of their new music playing their unreleased song “sunburn.” The band has a very distinct vibe and performance quality that we surely have only seen the beginning of. Joywave then took the stage, boasting incredible lighting and sound production as they played songs off their newest album “Cleanse” including “After Coffee” and “Cyn City 2000.” The band talked about their unfortunate previous album release as “Possession” dropped on March 13, 2020. They never had the chance to play that album live, so they played some highlights for their fans, including “Half Your Age” and “F.E.A.R.” Closing with their self proclaimed “greatest song of all time,” the recognizable whistle notes of “Destruction” brought the whole crowd together in a dance party that, on a Monday night, could only be found at a Joywave show.
