On September 26th, indie pop duo Cafuné (Sedona Schat and Noah Yoo) brought the Alive Online tour to Lincoln Hall, an intimate venue nestled in Lincoln Park. After much debate over what to wear, I turned around in line to find the person behind me wearing the exact same shirt — a Turnover Peripheral Vision tour tee from their Chicago stop earlier this year. I took it as a good omen for the night ahead. The show kicked off with an electric opening set from Crushed (stylized as crushed), who had just dropped their new album that very day.
Cafuné took the stage soon after, starting their set with “The Moment,” an upbeat track from their latest album Bite Reality. The band weaved through both newer songs and a few older tracks, giving fans the chance to sing along to their favorites. The crowd dynamic emulated a “town hall” energy (as said by Noah Yoo), shouting out to the band between songs. From statements like, “Bite Reality is a banger!” to earnestly asking “Are you hungry?”. The vibe between the audience and the band was lighthearted and close-knit.

A highlight of their set was “Temporary Lover,” a driving track with a heavier drum beat that translated perfectly into a live performance. It was high energy, and got everyone in the room dancing along.
Sedona Schat and Noah Yoo spoke briefly between most songs, but a stand out moment was when they took time to talk about how all music is political, and spoke up about the injustices that various minority groups are facing. In such a tumultuous time, it was refreshing to see artists that are unafraid to stand up for what’s right, and to foster that safe space for their audience by making it clear that there is no tolerance for bigotry.
To wrap up their set, Cafuné played a string of older favorites: “Tek It,” “Friction,” and “Want Me Out.” As expected, “Tek It” turned the audience into a sea of phones while everyone recorded the chorus, and everyone sang every word. “Want Me Out” served as the perfect closer, an easygoing track that mellowed out the audience while keeping the good vibes. Throughout the performance, the band was high energy & maintained a steady banter with the audience, the concoction for a perfect Friday night at Lincoln Hall.
