THE BLSSM recently dropped their new song ‘NOT TODAY’ via Fueled By Ramen. This is the second single from their EP, PURE ENERGY, which drops on April 29. ‘NOT TODAY’ is an angsty 90’s inspired song about not letting their anxious thoughts ruin their day.
At the beginning of the song, THE BLSSM recounts little things they should be grateful for in life.
“Got cash in the bank, got food in the fridge./ My boyfriend’s a saint, he doesn’t call me a b*tch.”
In the chorus, THE BLSSM sings, “When I ask myself if its gonna be a bad day, I say not today.”
THE BLSSM tries to gain control of their thoughts from ruining their day. In the bridge of the song, they sing:
“Hey now, what’s it going to be, don’t change now./Maybe everything’s okay now, maybe everything’s okay.”
Finally, in the last chorus of the song, they gain control of their thoughts and realize that it’s up to them if their day is good or bad, and they can change how their day is going at any time.
“’Cause I know it’s up to me if it’s a bad day./I say na, na, not today.”
‘NOT TODAY’ gives off the ultimate main character vibes, as THE BLSSM described the song as the theme song to their TV show if they had one. This song is great to listen to when you wake up on a rainy day, or when you’re alone in your room at 3 am overthinking about life.
The instrumental of ‘NOT TODAY’ gives off a grunge-ish vibe, with the electric and acoustic guitar working together to create a cool dazed effect on the song.
The Music Video
In the music video, THE BLSSM is walking and riding their bike as people walk past them. Later on in the video, they’re laying down as people are walking over them. This may symbolize just how much THE BLSSM is in their head and how their thoughts are drowning the world out. Then they look at their reflection and are sucked into a cartoon-like trance.
Overall, ’NOT TODAY’ screams the 90s-00s nostalgia, and is a great song to add to your playlists! Be on the lookout for THE BLSSM’s EP, PURE ENERGY, dropping April 29th!
